Your Trusted SJOW Cable Manufacturer in China

For over 20 years, Honest Cable has been powering industries with high-performance SJOW cables. Our cables are specially engineered for flexibility, resistance to wear, water and oil. They are industrial-grade power cables, designed to last.

The abbreviation in the Honest SJOW describes the unique characteristics of our cables: S – service cord; J – junior, which indicates the 300V rating; O- oil-resistant outer jacket, and W- weather and water resistant.

If you are a contractor who values performance and safety, whether in indoor or outdoor electrical projects, Honest is your trusted SJOW cable supplier in China.

SJOW Cable Structure

Honest SJOW cables are designed for high flexibility and resilience. Our engineers choose materials carefully for high power transmission with minimal losses.

  • Core: Fine-stranded copper conductors as per ASTM B-174. This allows for bending and dragging without snapping.
  • Cable Insulator: Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) for superior electrical resistance at low temperatures
  • Fillers: Polypropylene or jute to prevent internal wire friction
  • Outer Jacket: Either Neoprene or chlorinated polyethylene (CPE)

Available SJOW Cable Gauge

Our SJOW cables have a 300 V limit; they come in light gauges. The standard Honest cable offers a range from 18 AWG to 10 AWG:

  • 18 AWG – 7 to 10 Amps
  • 16 AWG – 10 to 13 Amps
  • 14 AWG – 15 to 18 Amps
  • 12 AWG – 20 to 25 Amps
  • 10 AWG – 25 to 30 Amps

Key Applications

Honest SJOW is a 300V portable power cord that is flexible and specifically designed to withstand rough handling. From exposure to harsh industry conditions to dragging on surfaces, our SJOW cables are serving the following industries.

What is the difference between SJOOW and SJOW cables?

The one letter “O” which forms the difference between these two cables refers to the added degree of protection. The “OO” implies the SJOOW has an oil-resistant outer jacket and oil-resistant insulation.

However, the SJOW inner insulation is not necessarily oil-resistant. Therefore, SJOOW is suitable for oily environments.

How do SJOW cables compare to SOOW cables?

At Honest Cables, we customize cables to match your unique project needs. Whether to choose SOOW or SJOW depends on the cables’ unique features and your project requirements.

FeaturesSJOWSOOW
Nature of work·       Junior service, hence the voltage limit is 300 volts·       “Hard service,” hence rated voltage is 600 volts
Oil resistance·       Only for the outer jacket

·       Thin cable jacket

·       Bother outer jacket and inner insulation material

·       Thick cable jacket

Cable size·       18 AWG to 10 AWG·       18 AWG to 2 AWG
How do you check power cable quality?

At Honest Cable, the cable quality starts from the point of sourcing raw materials. We test all SJOW cables in our factory, and we have also partnered with third-party testing laboratories. All our SJOW Cables are UL, CSA, and MSHA listed.

What is SJOW Cable?

What is SJOW Cable

If you’re looking for a power cord that bends repeatedly, can be used outdoors, and can withstand grease, you’ll most likely see the SJOW model. SJOW is a type of industrial-grade flexible cable, often found on construction sites, power tools, generators, and other places that require a mobile power supply.

SServiceIndicates a flexible service cord used for heavy-duty applications
JJuniorRated for 300 volts (lower than standard 600V service cords)
OOil-ResistantThe outer jacket is resistant to oil and suitable for oily environments
WWeather-ResistantDesigned for outdoor use, resistant to moisture and sunlight exposure

Features of SJOW Cable

Features of SJOW Cable

Flexibility and Durability

SJOW cable is notably flexible, and this is not something that fades away with time, but for quite a long time.

It consists of a multi-stranded copper core wire inside, and its exterior is covered in a rubber-like material. As a result of this, the SJOW cable can be bent many times without breaking and does not become hard. It is suitable for pulling, bending, and retracting in any way on the construction site.

If you need cables that move around a lot, the benefits of this softness are immediate. Even under cold conditions, it does not get hard. Its core wires inside are less prone to being broken, and hence the replacement is reduced.

Oil, Water, and Weather Resistance

The outer sheath of the SJOW can contact oil and will not corrode quickly. In environments such as machinery, equipment, or maintenance workshops, cables often come into contact with oil. At this time, ordinary cables are prone to aging, while SJOW can be used.

At the same time, it can also cope with outdoor environments. Rain, moisture, and sunlight have little impact on it. You use it as a temporary outdoor power line and don’t have to worry about it breaking down in a short period of time.

Performance in Harsh Environments

Performance in Harsh Environments

Although there isn’t one particular performance that makes the SJOW cable outstanding from the rest, it is possible to use the SJOW cable even when various conditions are combined. The conditions here include rough surface, humid atmosphere, oil presence, and frequent movements. Under such circumstances, ordinary cables will most probably break down soon, but SJOW can remain in use.

Using SJOW cables in tough surroundings will certainly ensure your usage experience is smooth and uninterrupted. This is because it will not easily break apart, your equipment will be continuously powered, and there will be fewer frequent stops at the site due to cable failure.

How to Choose the Right SJOW Cable

How to Choose the Right SJOW Cable

Choose the Right Gauge (AWG)

When choosing SJOW, the first step is to choose the wire gauge(AWG). The wire gauge is about how much current it can withstand, and it also affects your project’s safety.

You can understand it this way:

  • The thicker the wire (the smaller the AWG value), the stronger the load-bearing capacity
  • The thinner the wire (the larger the AWG value), only for small power equipment

If you’re just hooking up small tools, like handheld power tools, 16 or 18 AWG will suffice. However, as long as the equipment power is large, such as motors, compressors, etc., it is recommended to choose 12 or 10 AWG.

In addition, you should allow for a little extra capacity when selecting the cable gauge. When cables operate at full load for extended periods, they can easily overheat, which can shorten their service life over time.

Consider Cable Length and Voltage Drop

Consider Cable Length and Voltage Drop

Many people choose cables only based on device power, but ignore length. The longer the cable, the more significant the voltage loss. If you use a very long cable and choose a thinner gauge, the device may be underpowered or even fail to start properly.

When you choose:

  • Far distance, choose a thicker cable
  • If you’re already sure to run long distances, don’t use thin wires

Check the Working Environment

Check the Working Environment

SJOW is prepared for complex environments, but you still need to confirm your usage conditions. If it is outdoors, you need to confirm that there is a “W” mark; if the environment is oily, you need to have an “O”; if the temperature is low or varies greatly, rubber jackets will be better.

Match with Your Equipment Power

Match with Your Equipment Power

You need to know the power or current required by the equipment before choosing cables, instead of using the available cables to match the equipment.

A smaller cable size will result in overloading and overheating, thereby affecting working safety. However, using a larger cable size will not have any adverse effect other than being costly.
