What Is DLO Cable?
DLO (Diesel Locomotive) Cable is a heavy-duty, flexible power cable engineered for harsh industrial environments. Honest Cable supplies premium DLO cables built to deliver stable power in applications where standard power cables cannot withstand continuous vibration, mechanical stress, high current, and extreme temperatures.
- Durability & Reliability
- Flexibility & Ease of Installation
- High Electrical Performance & Safety
- Certifications & Compliance
- Supply Stability & Cost Efficiency
Honest DLO cables are also known as diesel locomotive cables. These are flexible and rugged power cables, with 2kV voltage rating and maximum operating temperature of +90°C. We have specifically designed these power cables for heavy-duty applications in diesel electric locomotives, mining equipment, shipyards, electric drive, and generator systems.
Our DLO cables are made from stranded tinned copper conductors that conform to the ASTM B33. We use Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) as an insulation material, and a Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) cable jacket. This robust construction makes Honest DLO cables achieve optimal power transmission, while also being resistant to high vibration, flame, oil, impact, abrasion and UV.
Whether your power project requires 14 AWG to 1111 MCM, our diesel locomotive cables come in many custom sizes. We also test every cable to ensure they comply with the MSHA approval standards, UL Type RHH/RHW-2, RoHS, UL 44, FT4 Flame Test and CSA C22.2 No. 38.

Yes, DLO cable can replace welding cable in many heavy-duty jobs.
It has double insulation, tinned copper, and better heat, oil, and abrasion resistance. This makes it stronger and more reliable for high-current applications.
But welding cable cannot replace DLO cable.
Welding cable is made for the secondary circuit of welding machines only. It does not have the same insulation strength, voltage rating, or durability as DLO cable.
If the DLO cable is more than your application requires, there are other options:
- THHN / XHHW-2 – good for general power wiring in conduit or cable trays
- Welding Cable – very flexible, but not as tough or durable as DLO
- Type W Cable – portable power and mining work; slightly thicker and less flexible
- Type G / G-GC Cable – industrial use with built-in grounding conductors
- Type SC Cable – used for lighting and audio equipment; flexible but lower ratings
- Type P Cable – oil, mud, and moisture resistant for offshore and drilling sites
Honest Cable can help you choose the cable that fits your budget, flexibility needs, and working environment.
Yes. DLO cable can be installed in conduits, ducts, troughs, and cable trays. Its fine-stranded design makes the cable easy to pull, bend, and route, even in tight spaces.
Because DLO cable is rated for wet or dry locations, it works well in both indoor and outdoor conduit systems.
