The China State Building Corporation (CSSC) was founded in 1982, prior to the structural reforms that occurred all across the country.

CSSC was the first corporate industry to be established in the country and was in charge of administrating the various types and styles of shipbuilding activities being held all across China.

The formation of CSSC was one of the first few steps that led the country to its current economic status in the world.

The CSSC, at its peak, administered over 27 large and various other small-scale shipyards, several marine-equipment factories, and almost 37 R&D institutes involved in research and development of ship and other marine-related products.

In 1999, CSSC was divided into two distinct entities: CSSC and CSIC.
