AC90 is a standard cable that is commonly used in many electrical projects where CSA compliance is mandatory. While the ACG90 is an improved version of the AC90 that offers higher insulation and electrical safety. This is mainly due to the dedicated ground wire, which makes it a suitable choice for industrial and critical systems.
Remember, the “G” for ground is critical in some applications as stipulated by the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
The ACG90 cable prices vary according to size (AWG), cores, conductor type, and brand. As your ACG90 cables manufacturer and supplier in China, we offer competitive prices with flexible MOQs to support small businesses.
For example, 14 AWG, 2-core: 0.25$ to $0.60 per meter, 14 AWG, 3-core: $0.35 to $0.80 per meter, and 12 AWG, 4-core: $1.20 to $2.50 per meter. The MOQ starts at 1000 meters, with short lead times and discounted prices for bulk orders.
The ACG90 is a modern version of BX cable, while the ACG90 is engineered to offer strict safety standards according to the CSA C22.2 No. 51.
The ACG90 cable uses XLPE insulation that makes the cables lightweight and bendable, making installation easier and cost-effective.
What is ACG90 Cable?

ACG90 is an armored cable constructed according to Canadian CSA standards. “AC” stands for “armored cable”. ‘G’ stands for “ground”, which means the cable includes a bare grounding conductor, and “90” refers to its maximum operating temperature of 90°C.
Where is ACG90 Cable Used?

ACG90 is commonly used in:
- Power distribution circuits in commercial buildings
- Power supply for equipment inside factories
- Cabling systems in cable trays
These environments are dry and require mechanical protection for the cables, but they are not for direct burial, wet locations, or outdoor exposure. If you want more durable cables without significantly raising installation costs, ACG90 is an excellent choice.
ACG90 vs ACWU90

The main difference between ACG90 and ACWU90 is the outer sheath. ACG90 is only metal armored, while ACWU90 has a PVC sheath on the outside, making the cable waterproof and corrosion-resistant.
Consequently, their intended environments are different. ACG90 is used in dry locations only, such as indoor wiring and cable trays. Whereas ACWU90 is rated for wet locations and direct burial. If you are unsure which type to choose, the project environment will easily provide the answer.
In terms of cost and installation, there are also notable differences. ACG90 has a simpler structure, lighter weight, faster installation, and lower overall costs. ACWU90, due to its sheath structure, has higher material costs and takes more time to install. If your project is large-scale, this difference will be multiplied, affecting overall budget planning.
ACG90 vs TECK90

The ACG90 has a single-layer armored structure. In contrast, the TECK90 is multi-layered (inner jacket, armor, and outer sheath) and is waterproof, corrosion-resistant, and impact-resistant.
As a result, the TECK90 is often found in oil and gas, mining, and heavy industries, while the ACG90 is used in building power distribution and general industrial environments. If your project environment is simple, ACG90 is sufficient to meet your needs. However, it falls short in environments involving oil, moisture, or corrosion.
The difference is also clear in price and ROI. TECK90 is more expensive but more protective. ACG90 is more affordable and is sufficient for most indoor projects. We do not recommend using TECK90 for all circuits, as this will increase your budget and may not bring higher value.
How to Choose ACG90 Cable?

Choose by Installation Environment
Will the cables be exposed to water, condensation, or washing environments? Is there potential for oil or corrosive substances? These factors will determine whether the cables will last throughout the life of your project.
In many projects, there is also the issue of an “ambiguous” environment. Consider an equipment room, which might not get wet most of the time, but might be subjected to cleaning or moisture from time to time. If you choose cables based solely on the equipment room being dry, this choice will be incorrect.
The other situation involves placing cables across different zones, some of which are dry and others that are humid. Using a single type of cable will also lead to problems.
We advise breaking down the cable route into segments and treating each risk-prone section separately. Although this requires a bit more time, it can prevent many issues down the line.
Choose by Number of Conductors
ACG90 is a multi-core cable and is available in multiple conductor counts to suit different circuit requirements. Common configurations include 2-core, 3-core, 4-core, etc. Your choice should be based on your power distribution system. If you select too few cores, you may need to add additional cables, which makes installation more complicated. If you select too many, it will generate unnecessary costs.
Choose by Certification and Rating
ACG90 usually conforms to the CSA standard and satisfies both the 90°C rating and the typical fire safety requirement (FT4). These criteria decide if the cable can pass the test, as well as if the project can be compliant. If your projects are carried out in Canada, this is a critical point.
ACG90 Installation Guidelines

Proper Grounding Requirements
ACG90 comes with a built‑in grounding conductor. However, this does not mean you can overlook grounding regulations. You should make sure that installers comply with local electrical codes during routing and termination. Otherwise, you cannot achieve safety for the system, despite the strength of the cable used.
Bending Radius and Handling
The ACG90’s aluminum armor is easy to damage through excessive bends or improper handling. In installation, it is important to observe the minimum bending radius and not over-bend or kink the cable. Similarly, you should avoid external forces acting on the cable, as this will influence its lifespan.
Compatibility with Cable Tray Systems
ACG90 is often utilized in cable trays. During installation, you should care more about mounting ways and spacing to ensure that the cables stay firmly in place. If the cable tray is incorrectly installed, mechanical damage arises after some time of use. Then, problems will arise and lead to expensive repairs.
